The ice storm started in the evening of Dec 11th. We lost power at 11:55 PM.
Overall 1.2 million people in New England lost power. Public Service of New
Hampshire (PSNH) lost service to 95% of their customers. New Hampshire had
about 420,000 people without power. We were without power for 4 days.
Fortunately I had installed an emergency power generator back in November, so
we were able to use that and had power. I turned the generator off at night
and put it back in the shed fearing that someone might steal it if it were
left out. Several generators were reported stolen in the Hudson area. Some
people were without power for 2 weeks. This was a massive storm, the worst
in one hundred years. The pictures below of the tree down in front of the house are from our neighbor's house across the street. The tree broke off at about 1:00 AM and actually bounced off the roof of their house. It amazingly did very little damage. It missed the truck. It did crush an ornamental lamp post in their front yard. The accretions were between 1/2 and 3/4 inch. To make matters worse, two huge storms moved in starting the evening of Dec 13th and then another the morning of the 15th. School was cancelled for several days. Some school districts in outlying towns cancelled until January 2009. |
